Data Engineer and Optimization Specialist
Description
I love solving hard mathematical problems that hide in plain sight as business problems. I believe that the end goal of data engineering is mathematical business optimization. My favorite problems that I've worked on solving: Optimization of manufacturing plant scheduling, with major tradeoffs in batch throughput vs equipment changeover, featuring unstable demand with long planning horizons, and raw materials shortages. Logistics optimization of inventory placement and movement in national distribution systems, designed to adapt to a large number of constraints and processing costs in a fast-fulfillment, short-lead time, continuous-planning system. FCC Auction bid optimization to determine how to properly value various auctionable licenses relative to others in the context of how they complement the existing license portfolio as well as close gaps in spectrum availability. Cellular site location optimization, including the possibility of modifying or decommissioning existing sites, to optimize coverage, throughput, and reliability of the network. Included in this is a massive geospatial data problem, involving data models of variable human movement patterns, constantly evolving physical environment data, and data models tailored for multi-objective optimization. Currently employed, with intense side projects, mostly happy with my current job, but always willing to entertain different employers. The best way to capture my attention is to lead with a description of a difficult problem that you're trying to solve.
