Engineering Leader, Real-time GenAI Platforms
Description
Nathan Vogel is a hands-on engineering leader with 14 years of experience building products, infrastructure, and teams, from indie apps with 10M+ users to a production real-time GenAI platform. He was most recently Director of Engineering at Journee, where he scaled the team to 25 and managed a multi-cloud, multi-geo GPU platform (3,000+ concurrent nodes with custom cost-aware autoscaler), a low-latency WebRTC backend for interactive 1080p/60fps streaming, and associated web apps and APIs. He also handled cloud FinOps (six-figure annual savings), enterprise security and GRC, and represented the tech org in investor relations. Nathan excels at aligning product goals, infrastructure, and team structure, particularly for real-time or AI systems in production, reducing cloud spend, improving developer experience, and enabling teams to ship efficiently. With a design background (ECAL), he bridges product, design, and infrastructure, caring about UI/UX as much as the backend. He is looking for fractional or full-time CTO / Head of Engineering roles, or technical advisory work, ideally with startups and scale-ups building AI-powered or real-time products that need a senior person to set technical direction and remain hands-on in the code.
