Principal Tech Lead & Product Engineer

Tom is a tech lead & product engineer with over 13 years of experience tackling diverse software challenges. He is currently seeking a leadership position or a higher-level IC role, such as technical lead, engineering manager, fractional CTO, product engineer, staff engineer, or senior software engineer. His experience includes optimizing planet-scale database services at AWS, leading development of a novel fintech mobile native app, building community banking infrastructure for African regions, and overseeing large-scale infrastructures (thousands of Linux servers). Tom is passionate about a deep connection to product (especially participating in UX and feedback loops from the tech perspective), long-term ownership of projects, technological pragmatism (using fitting tools and creating maintainable software), continuous improvement (mentoring and being mentored), and working on bullshit-free projects that do not harm anyone. He is a generalist in technologies, with expertise in Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, GNU/Linux, AWS, SRE, API design, tech debt, architecture, vibe code cleanup, Agile, and UX. He prefers remote work but is open to a hybrid model and occasional drop-ins to an office within EMEA.
